This really needs to be on an old CRT, but I did at least get a chance to play again this past weekend...

SimCopter was and still is one of my all-time favorite video games. I remember playing SimCopter quite a lot on our Windows 98 HP Pavilion as a kid; mainly flying around, sometimes completing a mission or two, but always having fun.

This game was far from the best in terms of graphics or programming integrity, but it made up for it in charm. The antics that you cause due to said lack of programming integrity also made for a lot of unintentional fun. The soundtrack ( and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) was great, too...

Here’s an amusing and informative review done by someone else, that also shows gameplay (and the infamous “Easter Egg”):

(I still wish I could have been a helicopter pilot some days...)

I really wish Colossal Order would make something like Streets of SimCity for Cities: Skylines. I’d like to be able to race around in my cities.

‘Good morning! Or afternoon...or evening! Whatever the case....’

In this case, I think it’s goodnight! :P

Great game, played the crap out of it as a kid, and Streets of SimCity. Fun games, for sure!

I LOVED that game. I’ve tried to run it multiple times over the last few years, but I can never get it to run on any modern computer.

I miss this game. If they ever made anything like it again, it needs to have the same people’s voices/sounds. Like the patient barfing on you when carrying them to the hospital.

I fondly remember putting down protests with air-launched tear gas while injured people slowly melted away in the back of my chopper.

I know there was a mod for Cities that added in SimCopter like game mechanics (I haven’t looking into it in a while, nor have I really looked into Cities itself). I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a similar Streets of SimCity mod...

It really isn’t happy on anything newer than Windows 2000, or on modern hardware. There are supposedly methods of running SimCopter on newer machines using VMWare running Windows 95/98 and a CPU grabber (which throttles the CPU down to a speed that SimCopter can handle), but I’ve never really bothered since I still have a few old machines lying around.

I’ll be honest, I spend some of yesterday evening just listening to the voices/sounds from the game CD. They truly are funny/bizarre...
